Installation instructions for our Motorcycle decals
These instructions are designed to help you with the application. However, you are responsible for proper installation yourself. We accept no warranty for application errors. If in doubt, please have the decors applied by a professional graphics company.
General
You have purchased a product that was manufactured individually and just in time for you. The decals are already pre-positioned between a transfer foil and support paper. To apply, you only have to remove the decors from the support paper and apply them with the (transparent) transfer foil as described below.
In advance, it must be decided whether the decals are to be applied wet or dry. Basically, it is to say that small stickers (<10 cm) are usually applied dry. The time-saving and fast attachment of the stickers speaks in favor of dry sticking. The disadvantage is that once applied decals can no longer be corrected.
The wet installation technique is suitable for beginners; sticking is usually more successful because the position can be corrected without any problems. However, this variant takes longer and is only possible on smooth surfaces.
Preparation - Surface / Environment
The requirement for application is a clean, dry surface that is free of dust, grease and silicone. Ideally, the surface should be cleaned with alcohol (CAUTION: Check the compatibility of the substrate!) and dried with a non-fuzzy towel. If your fairing has recently been painted, it is absolutely essential that it is fully cured before applying the adhesive. Paint or solvent dampers can cause bubbling and increased shrinkage. Just before sticking, please wipe the surface with commercial glass cleaner and a lint-free microfiber cloth.
The ideal temperature for application is about 17°C. Likewise, the object to be applied (side panel, cockpit...) should already spend about one day beforehand in the same room with the decals so that the temperature adjusts accordingly. Please allow parts that are too hot to cool down beforehand. We recommend that the temperature instructions are strictly followed.
Dry application
If all requirements are met, the object can be sticked. To do this, place the decal on a clean, smooth surface and apply the design with the squeegee, carefully gliding over it with pressure. Then carefully peel off the sticker (with the transfer film) from the support paper. When pulling off, make sure that there are no creases or folds in the foil. The decoration can now be placed and applied to the trim. Then squeegee it on firmly. Now, the transparent transfer film can be loosened at one corner and peeled off at a flat angle (approx. 180°). Make sure that the design is not removed due to low initial adhesion.
Wet installation
When using the wet application technique, the reaction time of the adhesive is automatically increased. Clean the substrate as described above. Then prepare a mixture with water and a small amount of flushing agent. Apply this mixture to the object so that everything is wet. Now the decor can be placed and moved as desired. Once the correct position is reached, it is necessary to squeegee from the center of the decor to the outside. Repeat this process until there is no more water under the film. It is helpful to use a towel to dab off the liquid on the edges. A commercially available dryer is also useful, but it should be operated at a safe distance from the design (risk of melting).
Air bubbles
Air bubbles are often unavoidable in complex substrates, but at first sight they often look worse than they are. Smaller air bubbles disappear by themselves within a short time. In the case of larger bubbles, the air bubble must be punctured laterally (needle) and carefully squeegeed out in the direction of the puncture.
Important information
- The optimum adhesive strength of your new decal will only be achieved after approx. 48 hours and at a temperature of at least 15°C. During this time, you should avoid high-pressure washes or other stresses on the decal.
- To remove the sticker, simply heat it with a cloth and carefully peel it off. Adhesive residue can be removed with a cleaner.
